The project at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School, Concord West emerged from a comprehensive masterplanning process undertaken by Alleanza to guide the long-term growth of the school. The masterplan focused on expanding capacity while optimising existing building fabric, reorganising the campus to create a clearer network of spaces and stronger connections throughout the school.
Central to the masterplanning approach was the creation of environments that support natural collaboration, modern teaching practices and the school’s evolving pedagogical aspirations. Learning spaces across the campus were progressively upgraded to align with contemporary educational models, ensuring consistency, flexibility and longevity in use.
The masterplan identified the need for a new multipurpose hall to serve as a place of gathering, sport and daily activity, while also functioning as an outdoor recreation space. Designed for shared use, the hall supports the wider community, parish activities and out-of-school-hours care, reinforcing the school’s role as a community hub.
With limited options available on the constrained site, the building was carefully positioned to maximise retained open space. The resulting hall forms a new centre for the school, enhancing circulation and strengthening connections to the surrounding landscape. High levels of adaptability and spatial flexibility ensure the building can respond to changing needs over time, supporting both educational and community use well into the future.
