Rosebank College, Five Dock is a Catholic co-educational College committed to the successful integration of e-learning and innovative pedagogy across the Curriculum for Years 7 to 12. In recent years the College has grown from 600 to 1400 students
Alleanza architecture has been involved with the College since 2006 with the present masterplan commencing in 2009.
The building facilities had to mediate between the traffic noise, Parramatta Road, and the internal, central, open, recreation space which the buildings surround.
The design Brief called for the College to present externally to the community and internally to itself, as a learning organisation committed to modern interpretations of traditional Benedictine values, along with a commitment to imagination, adaptability, and cutting-edge design.
The new facilities were constructed on the only available and very restricted,
exposed corner of the property. This included an additional twelve GLA’s and associated spaces including carparking and additional outdoor playing areas, to cater for their growing population .
The proposed vision for the new spaces was to create fully flexible and open learning environments that encouraged collaboration and allow students to pursue their own passions and develop into the best learner that they can be.
The final design solution achieved this by redesigning and evolving the traditional learning space by creating open plan areas that incorporate smaller breakout areas, pager teaching spaces and the ability for students to break out into different size cohorts. The spaces feature a high level of acoustic performance to the ceiling and walls, to maximise comfort for the users, whilst creating open, transparent spaces.
