The Impact Centre is a transformative addition to the expanding Marsden Park Anglican College campus. The project was shaped by a visionary client whose commitment to education and community connection informed the collaborative design process between the College, Anglican Schools Corporation and Alleanza. Practical functionality in spatial configurations is overlaid with a deep respect for the user in creating amenity and connection to the environ.
The building comprises two levels, each accommodating eight class groups arranged around central common spaces used for gathering, meeting, individual or group learning. Sliding glazed walls on two sides of each classroom allow agility and operability to support a multi-functioning and flexible learning environment that fosters collaboration, adaptability, and engagement.
Operable floor-to-ceiling glazing places the learner in the surrounding rural landscape and the wider campus, and connecting the leaner to the sights, sounds, smells and climate of the campus. Environmental responsiveness is integral to the design: perforated screens provide protection from harsh summer conditions, while operable glass louvres promote natural ventilation and airflow throughout the building. The screens are given further meaning with an integrated artwork connecting the College to the Country in which it is located.
The material palette, colour scheme, and lighting design draw inspiration from the school’s identity, the immediate environment, and the wider region, including the nearby Blue Mountains. At the heart of the building, the timber theatre imbues a natural warmth and has a matching artwork to the façade
